The Public Affairs Specialist must have an awareness of the existence of domestic violence and sexual assault and be able to demonstrate empathy for all victims. The Public Affairs Specialist should possess an understanding of and a strong commitment to the mission of the program. The Public Affairs Specialist must be able to establish positive working relationships with co-workers and volunteers and needs someone with strong communication skills. The Public A ffairs Specialist should demonstrate an ability to make logical, appropriate decisions in crisis and non-crisis situations; empathize and be non-judgmental; work with minimal supervision; and be flexible and available, as program needs dictate. Minimum requirements for the position of Public Affairs Specialist are a degree in the helping professions, education, or criminal justice and experience with social media content development, public speaking, adult education, volunteer engagement, event planning, or donor relations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Public Affairs Specialist under the supervision of the director or designee shall:

1. Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with the laws of the State of North Dakota and consistent with the programs policies;

2. Coordinate Balanced Beginnings Abuse Intervention Classes

3. Conduct Intakes for Balanced Beginnings Classes

4. Submit documentation for class attendees to the Court;

5. Recruit volunteers for the volunteer program; send out volunteer training applications, maintain contact with new volunteer recruits throughout the process of volunteer training, develop and maintain screening process of volunteers;

6. Plan, coordinate and facilitate volunteer training programs; utilize community resources and program staff to provide educational information and training;

7. Scheduling and conducting volunteer interviews;

8. Supervise yearly volunteer performance evaluations to be reviewed by the director;

9. Plan, coordinate and facilitate volunteer meetings with continued education and training opportunities;

10. Responsible for scheduling on site supervision of volunteers for the domestic violence and sexual assault crisis line and other volunteer duties; being on call when volunteers cannot fulfill their volunteer commitments;

11. Work with the fundraising committee and Executive Director to facilitate fundraising Events by engaging sponsors, creating social media content, and updating the website;

12. Maintain current record of all volunteer hours;

13. Promote the agency through community education opportunities;

14. Establish networking relationships with agencies, other professionals, and businesses as deemed appropriate in problem solving, information sharing and potential fundraising events;

15. Perform public speaking engagements on behalf of program activities;

16. Assist the director in maintaining a case record system;

17. Assist the director and grants coordinator as needed to promote funding awards on social media.

18. Perform routine shared office custodial duties as deemed necessary by supervisor or director;

19. Attend meetings as required;

20. Assist the director with the programs social media platforms;
