Position Summary

The Client Services Advocate provides direct support and advocacy to individuals affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, stalking, and related forms of abuse. This position ensures compassionate, trauma-informed care through crisis intervention, safety planning, legal and medical accompaniment, and referrals to appropriate community resources.

The position is supported through VOCA, SASP, STOP, and TIER funding and requires that approximately 30 hours per week be dedicated to grant-eligible advocacy services. The remaining time supports other agency functions, such as the clothing outlet, food pantry, and administrative assistance that contribute to holistic family and community support.

Advocate Certification Requirement
The Client Services Advocate is required to obtain North Dakota Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Advocate Certification within 12 months of the date of hire, unless an extension or exemption is granted by the Executive Director. The agency will support access to training opportunities to meet this requirement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide confidential, trauma-informed advocacy and emotional support to individuals affected by domestic and sexual violence.
  • Respond to crisis calls and walk-ins, offering immediate assistance, safety planning, and referral to appropriate services.
  • Assist clients in understanding and navigating systems such as legal, medical, housing, and social services.
  • Educating clients on their legal rights as outlined in Marsy’s Law
  • Accompany clients to court hearings, law enforcement interviews, and medical appointments when requested.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services in accordance with grant and agency standards.
  • Facilitate support groups, educational sessions, preventative programs, and community outreach events as needed.
  • Attend, participate in and support the further development of Coordinated Community Response (CCR) meetings.
  • Participate in the 24-hour crisis line rotation, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
  • Work collaboratively with community partners and service providers to coordinate referrals and ensure clients receive comprehensive support services to support stabilization and safety.
  • Uphold confidentiality and ethical standards in accordance with agency policy and North Dakota law.
  • Engage in regular supervision, training, and continuing education relevant to victim advocacy.
  • Support agency events, prevention efforts, and public awareness campaigns.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Additional Responsibilities (agency support & operations)

  • Provide assistance to community members utilizing the clothing outlet and food pantry with confidentiality and compassion.
  • Maintain organized records of donations, inventory, and client access logs in accordance with agency procedures.
  • Support administrative and reception tasks, including answering phones, assisting walk-in clients, scheduling appointments, and maintaining forms or reports.
  • Participate in community outreach events, volunteer coordination, and seasonal drives related to basic needs assistance.
  • Help ensure a welcoming, trauma-informed, and inclusive environment for all visitors to the Family Resource Center.

Work Hours
This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position. A minimum of 30 hours weekly must be dedicated to activities allowable under VOCA, SASP, STOP, and TIER grants. The remaining hours may include administrative or community support tasks that strengthen overall service delivery.

Hours can be flexible to allow for four-day work weeks when possible, based on client needs and coverage coordination with the team.
